May 27, 2016 – Father’s Day is Sunday, June 19. You’ve have three weeks but they’ll go fast. We’ve got a couple of suggestions that are a bit more imaginative than a new tie.
We found a service called ReserveBar www.reservebar.com that ships wine and spirits to various parts of the country – see the map on their web site – but better yet, they can engrave the bottle for you. The cool thing is, using the Custom Engraved tab on the web site, you can select your brand, type in your message and see how it will look.
We tried it out with a couple of brands that had caught our eye. One was a vodka called elit (all in small letters!) that has the striking packaging of a luxury brand that will look good on any bar. It comes from Stolichnaya, triple distilled before being filtered through fine quartz sand and activated charcoal. elit is then freeze filtered at -18 degrees Celsius, to remove the final impurities. Our test engraving looked great and the cost was $69.99.
We also tried it on Roca Patrón, a new line of Silver, Reposado, and Añejo tequilas from Patrón. Roca is crafted using 100% tahona method, an ancient tradition in tequila-making that utilizes a two-ton volcanic rock to crush the roasted agave. We found the idea of crushing roasted agave with a two-ton volcanic rock fascinating. Sounds like building the Egyptian pyramids. In this case, the test engraving goes on the back of the bottle since the front label has a lot going on. Engraved bottles cost between $71 and $84 depending on selection.
Giving an engraved bottle really kicks it up a notch, to quote Emeril. It makes a good gift great and who wouldn’t appreciate the thought and effort that went into the selection? We think it is a great service.
