July 1, 2016 – We’ve done our bit and now the numbers are in: the U.S.A. overtook the U.K. as the number one market for Champagne by value in 2015.
According to Shanken News Daily, shipments of lovely French bubbles increased 28 per cent in 2015 representing shipments valued at $573 million. The U.K. only spent $570 million, the pikers!
But, friends, we have work to do. At 1.4 million cases, we’re behind 2007 when we consumed 1.6 million cases.
The biggest brands ranked by sales were Veuve Clicquot, Moët & Chandon, Perrier-Jouet, Nicolas Feuillatte, Dom Perignon, and Piper Heidsieck.
The Fourth of July is the perfect occasion for something sparkling but while we send hugs and kisses to Champagne, ours will be made in America.
Happy Independence Day!
