October 14, 2016 – Marilyn Wines has just released the 30th vintage of Marilyn Monroe Merlot, a Napa Valley classic collectible. The sought after wine is made by Bob Pepi who himself is something of a legend in Napa’s winemaking world.
Bob Pepi worked closely with great Napa Valley vineyards, including Andy Beckstoffer’s Missouri Hopper from the Oakville Appellation, to create the 2014 vintage. The wine was bottled in 2015. For collectors, this release will be another jewel in the Marilyn Monroe Merlot collection. For those who enjoy drinking Marilyn Merlot, they are in for another treat.
Tasting notes describe the 2014 Marilyn Merlot as a deep rich scarlet wine with purple hues that immediately catch one’s eye as it is poured in the glass. The aromas exhibit good intensity with a complexity of dark, mature fruit, hints of mocha, forest floor, earthiness and mushroom characters. This merlot has a solid medium body, good structure, and well balanced with well-integrated tannins. The flavors follow the aromas with added nuances of spice, cherry, and a bright lingering finish. Very enjoyable now but will reward with at least 5-8 years of aging.
This 2014 vintage is available for a reasonable $32.00 a bottle. Early vintages sell for several thousand dollars so as an investment, it is quite amazing – providing you can resist the urge to drink it! So buy two bottles, even a case, and enjoy. Less than 5,000 cases have been made.
Marilyn Merlot is available in 42 states but can be shipped to all states that allow direct shipping. To order this vintage on line as well as wines from other Marilyn collections, go to www.marilynwines.com. The Marilyn legend lives on.
