Vodka Drinkers Celebrate October 4

October 3, 2017 – It’s vodka’s turn to have its day, Wednesday, October 4 to be precise.  Vodka is one third of all spirits volume amounting to $6 billion – that’s billion with a B – in sales and just shy of 70 million cases in 2016.  Someone out there is having a beano!

With dozens and dozens of brands, both imported and domestic, available to the U.S. consumer, how does a distiller differentiate his vodka from the pack?  We found a brand that has done just that:  American Harvest.

American Harvest bears the stamp of USDA Organic on its label.  Made from organic winter wheat and water from deep beneath the Snake River Plain, this vodka has a secret ingredient that adds a touch of sweetness – organic agave nectar.  Try it on the rocks, with or without the obligatory twist of lemon, and you’ll be charmed by the almost creamy, silky smoothness, and soft sweet finish that lingers on and on.   Some sweetened spirits can be cloying but not this vodka.  We recommend adding it to your vodka collection plus American Harvest makes killer cocktails, too. Harvest Basil Lemonade
2 oz American Harvest Organic Vodka
4–5 oz fresh or organic lemonade
3 fresh basil leaves
2 slices of lemon

Method: Muddle basil and lemons in a tall glass. Add ice and American Harvest Organic Vodka and top with lemonade. Garnish with lemon wheels and basil leaves.

 

 

 


American Harvest Grapefruit Greyhound

2.5 oz American Harvest Organic Vodka
4 oz Fresh Grapefruit Juice
1.5 oz Rosemary Simple Syrup
Lime Juice to taste (about ½ oz)

Method:  In a shaker, combine vodka, grapefruit juice, simple syrup and a squeeze of lime juice. Top with ice and shake until well chilled. Pour contents with ice into glass, and garnish with rosemary sprig.

 

 

 

Southern Belle

2 oz American Harvest Organic Vodka
3 oz Sweet Iced tea

Method:  In a rocks glass combine American Harvest Organic Vodka and iced tea. Garnish with a lemon wheel and mint sprig.

 

 

 

 


Seasonal Harvest Bloody Mary

2 oz American Harvest Organic Vodka
1 oz Freshly squeezed lemon juice
4 small cherry tomatoes
3 thin cucumber slices
Salt & pepper to taste
2–3 dashes of hot sauce
2–3 dashes of Worcestershire Sauce
3 sprigs of fresh dill, 3 fresh basil leaves and a sprig of fresh tarragon (or your own favorite fresh herbs)

Method: Combine all ingredients in a cocktail glass and muddle. Add ice and shake well. Strain over fresh ice into a rocks glass and garnish with your favorite vegetables and herbs.
