February 17, 2017 – Wine shops in the Washington area are selling out of Trump wine reports Judy Kurtz writing in The Hill. The winery, located in Charlottesville, Va., is owned by Eric Trump Wine Manufacturing LLC. The Trump name is featured prominently on the label.
Ms Kurtz interviewed several wine retailers including the behemoth Total Wine & More, which carries the Trump brand in its stores in Virginia, Florida and Maryland. Total Wine confirmed brisk sales during the election season noting that now the wholesalers are out of stock of several varietals and so are the stores.
In Reston, Va., Mike Mackie, co-owner of The Wine Cabinet, says the Trump wines are flying off the shelves and that the Chardonnay is the most popular followed by a red blend called Meritage. He describes them as very good wines.
Mr. Mackie theorizes that some people buy the wines because they are Trump supporters; some view them as conversation pieces; others buy them as jokes for anti-Trumpers; and some buy them because they are well-made wines. Whatever the reason, sales are brisk. The wines retail between $25 and $35 a bottle.
