Labor Day — Summer’s Final Fling

September 1, 2017 – Saying adios to summer calls for a cocktail.  The kids are back in school – whoo hoo!  Moms can celebrate.   Or maybe the thought of Old Man Winter around the corner demands something special as summer slips away.  We searched for fun ways to make Labor Day gatherings memorable but easy, and we’ve come up with six ways to celebrate.



Morgan Mule Gelatin Shots

6 oz Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum
8.5 oz ginger ale
1.5 oz fresh lime juice
2 envelops of lime gelatin (approx. 5.5 teaspoons)

Method:  In a small saucepan, combine ginger ale and lime juice. Sprinkle gelatin over the liquid mixture and let sit for about 5 minutes. Warm the mixture over low heat and stir until gelatin is fully dissolved. Remove from heat and stir in Captain Morgan Original Spiced Rum. Pour liquid into lime halves and refrigerate until set.  You could also use lemon or orange halves.  Slice with a sharp knife.



The Miami Vice

1.5 oz Captain Morgan LocoNut
1.5 oz Coconut Water
0.75 oz Captain Morgan White Rum
1.5 oz Strawberry Daiquiri Mix
0.75 oz Water

Method:  Combine Captain Morgan LocoNut and coconut water. Stir to combine.
Separately, combine Captain Morgan White Rum, strawberry daiquiri mix, and water. Stir to combine.


Fill a plastic freezie sleeve halfway up with strawberry daiquiri mixture and freeze. Top with LocoNut mixture and freeze overnight before serving.  (Freezie sleeves are available on Amazon or you could use a popsicle kit and just fill half way.)


Santina Spritz

Frozen Aperol
Soda water
Fresh mint

MethodAdd frozen Aperol to pitcher and top with Prosecco and soda water.  Stir to blend and pour into balloon wine glasses. Garnish with orange wheel and mint sprig



Wet Hot American Summer Ale-tail

3 oz Sam Adams Summer Ale
1.5 oz Mezcal (preferably Del Maguey Vida Mezcal)
0.75 oz Lime Juice
0.5 oz Ginger Syrup (Can be substituted for simple syrup)
1 whole strawberry

2 slices of Jalapeño

MethodIn a shaker, muddle the strawberry and jalapeño slices. Add the rest of the ingredients. Shake with ice and strain into a highball glass with ice. Top with 3 oz of Sam Adams Summer Ale. Garnish with a lime wedge.



1.5 oz Monkey Shoulder Scotch Whisky
1 oz Sweet Vermouth
.5 oz Campari
.25 oz Grenadine syrup
Top up Cold Brew Coffee tonic (Buy cold brew bottle + premium tonic bottle)
Stir it and build in highball glass with block ice
Garnish with orange or grapefruit peel




Monkey Jam Sour

2 oz Monkey Shoulder Scotch Whisky
.2 oz simple syrup
2 teaspoons jam
.75 oz Fresh lemon juice
Dash orange bitters

Add all ingredients to shaker, add fresh ice and shake it hard.

Once shaken strain into glass. Add fresh ice to glass.
