Drinks With a Difference for Labor Day

Detox Stars & Stripes Punch

August 29, 2018 – Nobody wants to be a party pooper but for many reasons, some of us prefer to go easy on the booze.  We’ve found some Detoxwater recipes that look pretty, have plenty of flavor but fall into the “better for you” category.

The cocktails below have no alcohol or just a moderate amount and with the addition of Detoxwater, will at the very least make you feel virtuous.  Detoxwater is an aloe-infused water with a consistency similar to coconut water.  We’re told it helps with preventing and treating hangovers.  We don’t know about that so you will have to decide if it works.  The flavors are interesting – mango, pineapple and mint and the Original which is lychee and grape are the ones used in the following recipes.

You can learn more about Detoxwater and where to buy it on their web site.

Detox Stars & Stripes Punch

1/2 cup Original (Lychee) Detoxwater

1 cup whole black grapes

1 cup whole green grapes

2 oranges, sliced into rounds

1 lemon, sliced into rounds

1 lime, sliced into rounds

1/4 cup brandy

1 (750) bottle of fruity red wine, such as Pinot Noir

1 (12 ounce) can ginger ale

Colored sugar (optional)

Method:  Rinse and de-stem grapes, then pat dry. Spread in a single layer on a baking sheet and place in the freezer at least two hours before you plan to serve.

In a large glass pitcher, combine half of the orange slices (save the other half for serving), lime, and lemon slices. Add the brandy and stir gently to combine. Slowly pour in the wine. Refrigerate sangria for at least two hours, or as long as overnight A longer chill time will increase the flavor.

When ready to serve, add the Original (Lychee) Detoxwater to the pitcher and stir gently with a spoon. To sugar the glass rims, place colored sugar on a plate, then rub an orange slice around the glass rim. Dip the rim of each glass into the sugar, coating well. Fill glasses with frozen grapes and the reserved orange slices, and then slowly pour in the sangria. Sip
immediately and enjoy.
