April 30, 2019 — Patrón Tequila announced the winner of the 2019 Margarita of the Year competition just in time for Cinco de Mayo. This year May 5 falls on Sunday, so there’s time to work on mixology skills and be awesomely creative.
The international competition, now in its fifth year, searches for refreshingly unique twists on the iconic cocktail. The eight finalists and their recipes were revealed on International Margarita Day on February 22. Margarita fans were encouraged to taste the recipes and select their favorite by casting votes through Patrón’s social platforms. More than four million votes were received.
The global finale was held at Hacienda Patrón in Jalisco, Mexico where Jay Kahn’s “Dynasty Margarita” took top honors. Inspired by Hong Kong where he was born and continues to live, the Dynasty Margarita incorporates the traditional Chinese ingredients of lychee and ginger combined with the fresh agave notes of Patrón Silver and Patrón Citrónge Orange to create a citrusy and sweet cocktail. Watch the video of Jay elegantly making his cocktail. The recipe is posted below so Cinco de Mayo this year will be a winner. No time to shop? Cocktail Courier will send you a kit.
