Super Bowl LV — A Good Excuse for Something Special

January 31, 2021 — Super Bowl Sunday might be a bit tamer and less raucous this year but that’s a good reason to make a special cocktail and a party mix to go with it.
Nelson’s Green Brier Tennessee Whiskey has the recipe for both: Long Snap Shandy and Whiskey Glazed Party Mix both sound delicious. Green Brier Tennessee Whiskey is available on Drizly If it’s just you and your significant other that will be partying, the leftover party mix will keep if well sealed for a month or more or it can be frozen.
The story of how the Nelson family came to America and how the Distillery got its start is really worth checking out on their web site.
Long Snap Shandy
- 1.5 oz Nelson’s Green Brier Tennessee Whiskey
- .75 Aperol
- .75 oz lemon juice
- .25 oz simple syrup
- Beer of choice for topping (we recommend a lager or pilsner)

Method: Combine Tennessee Whiskey, Aperol, lemon juice and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Add ice and shake until chilled. Strain into a Collins glass or mason jar filled with ice and top with beer.
Whiskey Glazed Party Mix
- 1 cup each of corn, rice and wheat Chex cereal
- 1 cup pretzels
- ½ cup cheddar cheese straws
- 1 cup peanuts
- ½ cup rye chips
- ½ cup butter (1 stick)
- ½ cup brown sugar (packed)
- 2 oz Nelson’s Green Brier Tennessee Whiskey
- 1 tsp cinnamon
- 1 tsp chili powder
- ½ tsp kosher salt

Method: Preheat oven to 300°F.
Combine Chex cereal, pretzels, cheese straws, nuts and rye chips in a large mixing bowl.
In a saucepan, heat butter, brown sugar, cinnamon, chili powder and salt over medium heat, stirring to combine.
Once it starts to bubble, remove from heat and stir in the whiskey.
Add sauce to party mix and toss to coat.
Spread the glazed mix onto a greased baking sheet.
Bake for 30-40 minutes, stirring every 15 minutes.
Spread the baked mix on wax paper and allow to cool completely (about 1 hour).
Break apart and enjoy (alongside a Long Snap Shandy!)
