A Spooky Cocktail for Halloween

Halloween - Black Blood SourF

October 21, 2023Halloween is around the corner and if you’re planning a celebration with adults, here’s a cocktail that will spook them out:  the Black Blood Sour from Filmland Spirits.   It’s easy to make but takes a bit of effort to organize the special effects.

The marvelous smoke effect shown in the photo can be created at home with the use dry ice.  It is safe, but should be handled with care and not consumed.  There’s a lot of information on the web but we liked the way it was laid out at Betty Crocker. This should link you to “How to Use Dry Ice in Halloween Cocktails” by Mark Evitt.  That’s where the details are.

You’ll also need squid ink or activated charcoal to turn it black.  Charcoal is available at drug stores while squid ink is available at some liquor stores, Walmart and Trader Joe’s.  You’ll only need a tiny bit of either per drink.

Lastly, the recipe says to serve in a double walled martini or coupe glass.  Nice idea as a double walled glass keeps the drink really cold but if you don’t have them, don’t worry.  Just use your usual glassware and your ghoulish guests will howl with happiness!
