Quick! What does a vineyard, a beer, a washing machine and a cheese have in common? You guessed it: the name Maytag. The patriarch of the family behind the wondrous washer that changed they way Americans did laundry was Frederick L. Maytag. In the 1940s, Frederick L. Maytag II began making blue cheese that today is still sought after by fine food aficionados. His son, Fritz L. Maytag III rescued and revived the Anchor Brewing company in San Francisco. Then in the late 1960s Fritz #3 bought several hundred acres on Spring Mountain in the Napa Valley, which came with a vineyard.
