Will The Mailman Deliver Your Beer, Wine And Spirits?

In an effort to raise revenue for the ailing US Postal Service, Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe has proposed allowing the Postal Service to deliver wine and spirits and beer. The potential revenue could be as much a $50 million a year.
Currently, Fedex and UPS dominate the highly regulated shipment of alcohol. Mr. Donohoe commented, “There’s a lot of money to be made in beer, wine and spirits (and) we’d like to be in that business.” The Senate passed a postal reform bill last year that included the shipment of alcohol, as long as USPS complied with various state laws, which are many and arcane. The House has yet to act.
They are legal products, so why not? Since the decision is up to Congress, don’t hold your breath.
