Winery Women Support Alpacas in Peru

Margrit Mondavi and Sandra Jordan have come together to support the herders of alpacas in the Peruvian Andes.  The luxurious and ancient fabric from alpacas is sometimes called “the gold of the Andes”.  Margrit Mondavi is VP of Cultural Affairs at the Robert Mondavi Winery.  Sandra Jordan, a native of Peru, as creative director of Jordan Winery, used her country’s textiles for the winery’s décor.  Visitors were intrigued and became interested in purchasing items.  One thing led to another and with the encouragement of the late Robert Mondavi, resulted in the Sandra Jordan Collection.  Interestingly, she uses alpaca fabric for furnishings.  Check out www.sandrajordan.com

At a recent fundraiser in the Napa Valley, beautiful clothing items from Kuna, a high end store in Lima, Peru, were modeled for a delighted crowd.  The beneficiary was VIDA, Volunteers for Inter-American Development Assistance, a San Francisco non-profit and funds raised by the event have been earmarked to assist the Peruvian herdsmen.
