Cider a Substitute for White Wine?

We wrote about the introduction of AB In-Bev’s Stella Artois Cidre last May. A crisp, drier cider in the European style, it rolled out in 26 states and is now going nationwide. The cider market is lively, doubling each year.
Seems it appeals to white wine drinkers so the company suggests serving it in a wine glass and pairing it with Asian cuisine and cheeses. At only 4.5% alcohol, it is an attractive alternative to white wine that can be 10% to 13% abv.
