Which Country Drinks the Most?

Dec. 24, 2014 – The latest statistics we have seen put the citizens of Belarus at the top of the list for the highest per capita consumption of alcohol in the world. Hard liquor is the drink of choice and they down 17.5 liters per person.
Hard on their heels are Moldova, Russia, Lithuania, Romania and Ukraine, “hard” being the description of their favorite alcohol also.
Ireland has an undeserved reputation as being a nation of booze hounds. They are right there with the United Kingdom and France each country consuming around 12 liters per person. For Ireland and the U.K., it’s beer; for France wine.
We were surprised to find that Italy consumes a moderate 7 liters per person and their top choice is wine.
Our neighbors to the north like to tie one on a bit more than we do at 10 liters per person in Canada against the U.S. at 8.5 liters. Beer is the number one beverage of choice. Since one third of the U.S.A. claims to be teetotalers, that number might be somewhat skewed. The survey didn’t indicate that it was taken into account.
