Charlie Hebdo Cartoonists’ Wine Labels

Jan. 16, 2015 – Bordeaux producer Gérard Descrambe commissioned three of the murdered Charlie Hebdo cartoonists to create labels for his estate Château Barrail des Graves starting in the early 1970s. The cartoonists whose work mocked everything from drunkenness to sex were editor-in-chief Stéphane Charbonnier (Charb), Georges Wolinski and Bernard Verlhac (Tignous).
The cartoonists were a part of a stable of 18 other French cartoonists who created more than 50 wine labels for the winery.
Descrambe sold his estate in 2008 but continues to use cartoonists to create labels for his Château Renaissance brand. He said he will continue to use work from Charlie Hebdo.
