Wine Dictionary
This is really useful, especially if you are beginning to explore wine but are still overwhelmed. It is available for both iPhone and Android, and it’s free.
With this app you can learn the vocabulary of wine and wine regions, as well as how to pronounce foreign words and names. It explains in plain English all the geeky words used to describe taste as well as which grapes are used in which wines.
Vivino
This is a cool app that allows you to take a picture of a label and it will search its database of more than three million wines to give you information on the wine, reviews, ratings, cost and even a nearby retailer who stocks it. You can also use the app to interface with friends via Facebook, Twitter or Gmail and learn their wine preferences and experiences. Create a list of wines you like using the app and you’ll never have to hunt for the name of a wine again. Available for Android and iPhone and it is free.
Delectable
This app is similar to Vivino. Snap a photo and Delectable does the rest identifying the vintage, winemaker, tasting notes, ratings and where to buy it. You can also follow sommeliers from top wine regions around the world and see what they are drinking. Users of this app gave it very high marks. It is available for Android and iPhone and is free.
