Beer Jelly for Breakfast, Lunch or Dinner

August 21, 2015 – The independent, creative entrepreneur is as American as apple pie and we love to celebrate their success.  We saw a review of beer jelly on Bloomberg and decided to investigate.  We were especially interested because last October we found Birra Spalmabile, an Italian spread combining chocolate and beer http://www.wineandspirits.com/?s=beer+spread.

The beer jelly comes from a Vermont company with the delightful name of Potliker Kitchen founded by Nancy and Walter Warner, archaeologists by avocation.  The beer is sourced from several local Vermont breweries and just two other ingredients are added – cane sugar and pectin – then it is boiled down, put in a jar and it turns into jelly.  Of course the alcohol is gone but the beer flavor comes through.  We counted a dozen different flavors of beer jelly on their web site including Black India Pale Ale, Oatmeal Stout, Hefeweizen with Orange and even a Gluten Free.

We really liked the recipe and chatty description that comes with each beer.  They all sound and look mouth-watering good.  Great photos!  We’re looking forward to some wonderful fall dinners.

Potlicker Kitchen evolved from Nancy Warner’s interest in foraging and experimenting with usual combinations and flavors so when her mania for canning resulted in a cupboard full of unconventional jams and jellies, husband Walter suggested the farmers market would be a perfect outlet.  In the winter of 2011, when the fresh fruit was finished, Nancy turned to craft beer and Potliker Kitchen Beer Jelly was born.  We think it is a great gift idea for anyone but especially for someone who is a craft beer devotee. http://potlickerkitchen.com/beer-jelly/
