New World Record for “Beer Mile”

August 21, 2015 – The “Beer Mile” competition has a new world champion, Lewis Kent of Canada.
Don’t know what the “Beer Mile” is? Don’t feel bad. Neither did we. In as few words as possible it is a race in which the participants have to drink a beer then run a quarter of a mile; have another beer, run another lap and so on until they have had four beers and completed one mile. If you get ill in the process, you are immediately disqualified.
We decided to check out Mr. Kent and we’re impressed. In December 2014 he clocked in at 5:32:6. In five subsequent races in 2015, including a two-miler, he improved his time to where in his sixth race in Mississauga, Ontario on August 8, he broke the world record completing his mile in 4:55:8 minutes. His beer of choice was Amsterdam Blonde from a craft brewery in Toronto.
This weekend on Saturday August 22, the Beer Mile World Classic will be run on Treasure Island in San Francisco. It sounds like an insane amount of fun for participants and spectators www.beermilesf.com. Also, take a look at www.beermile.com. Check out the 69+ age group called Super Grand Hash Masters. If people in their 70s and 80s are competing, there’s hope for us all. There are also numerous videos of various races that are fun to watch.
