The King of Beers Does Not Want a Queen

August 24, 2015 – The Associated Press reports that Budweiser, “The King of Beers” is not amused by She Beverage Co. of Lancaster, California attempting to trademark “The Queen of Beer”. She Beverage uses the phrase “Queen of Beer” in marketing on social media and its web site.
She Beverage Co. is a female-owned company that launched last April. Its co-owner, Lupe Rose commented that there aren’t many beers targeted to women and her company’s beers are customized for this market. She Beverage produces beers that are complex, smoother and lower in alcohol.
For their part, Anheuser-Busch argued that the phrase is too similar to “King of Beers” and could confuse the consumer into thinking it was made by A-B. They also pointed out in their filing to the Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office that they have ruled in their favor in the past when another company wanted to trademark “Queen of Beers”.
Ms. Rose vowed to continue pursuing the trademark for her company noting that Budweiser has not trademarked the use of “Queen”.
