Famous Wine and Spirits Educator Celebrates 40th Anniversary! Join the 2015 Fall Program

September 16, 2015 – New Yorkers have all the luck.  If you live in the city or its environs, you can be a part of Harriet Lembeck’s Wine Program and Spirits Program celebrating its 40th anniversary this Fall.

Run by Harriet Lembeck, Certified Wine Educator (CWE), and Certified Spirits Educator (CSE), this class is the longest running wine and spirits class in the US, having begun in the 1940s by the late Harold G. Grossman (“Grossman’s Guide to Wines, Beers and Spirits”). Harriet was a protégé of Grossman, and took over the class after his death.

Between Grossman and Lembeck, this class has actually been running for over 70 years!

Classes are sit-down, with lecture and tastings, and include open-book quizzes, which are corrected, graded, and returned to students. There are also practice blind tastings, with wines and/or spirits coming from all over the world. Attendance is taken every week, and industry-recognized certificates are awarded to those who complete the class work. Classes also prepare students for the Certification examinations given by the Society of Wine Educators.

Students include wine retail storeowners, wine PR firms, wine journalists, or anybody involved in the wine industry with a goal of increasing their knowledge and appreciation of wine. But working in the industry is not a requirement.  Classes are open to all, over 21, of course! Many of today’s industry leaders have taken this remarkable class.

The Wine Program runs for 10 evening sessions (20 hours) once a week, and begins this anniversary year on Monday, September 21. ($995.00)

The Spirits Program runs for 4 evening sessions (8 hours) once a week, and begins on Wednesday, September 30. ($400.00)

Classes are held in Harriet’s RoseHill Historic House, an 18th century townhouse on 29th Street and 3rd Avenue, in Manhattan, New York City, after a lengthy run at the Waldorf-Astoria Hotel, when it was the only wine and spirits class in town.
