Beck’s Beer $20 Million Settlement

October 23, 2015 – A judge in Miami agreed with plaintiffs that the labeling of Beck’s Beer made it appear the beer was made in Germany when it is actually made in St. Louis, Missouri.
Beck’s has been made in Bremen, Germany for more than 100 years. In 2002 it was purchased by Interbrew, which morphed into Anheuser-Busch InBev. In 2012, brewing was moved to St. Louis, at least for the U.S. market, but the label implied that it was German quality that originated in Bremen, Germany. It commanded import prices but it was definitely not an import.
Anheuser-Busch settled for $20 million. The lawyers get $3.5 million. As a consumer, you can get a refund of 10 cents per bottle or can, 50 cents per six-pack and $1.75 per 20-pack. The maximum claim payable to any household is $50 if you have receipts dating back to May 2011 and you have until November 20 to claim your refund. If you don’t have any receipts, you may still be entitled to a refund of $12.00.
