Wine-by-the-Glass Club Starts Shipping

February 17, 2016 — Vinebox, a wine-by-the-glass club that was launched last fall is now they are starting to ship. It’s an interesting idea albeit an expensive one.
Each month their “curators” who are sommeliers select three wines from premium vineyards in Europe, currently from France. Three 10cl glass vials are filled with either red or white wine and the vials are packed in an attractive, foam-lined box, along with tasting notes, and shipped to the customer. Each vial is decorated with the logo of the winery that produced it. The idea is for the customer, or club member, to taste the premium wine before investing in a bottle, which could range from $25 to $55 a bottle.
Subscriptions cost $35.00 a month, or $33.00 a month if you buy three months, or $30.00 a month if you sign up for a year. Shipping is an additional $6.00 per box. Shipping isn’t allowed in all states so check out the states where they are shipping on their web site. We didn’t see anywhere that you are obliged to purchase any bottles.
A 10cl serving converts to 3.3814 ounces, which is little more than a generous taste and cannot be considered a glass of wine by any stretch of the imagination. So a three-month subscription breaks down to $11.00 per glass (or taste) plus $2.00 shipping.
For consumers interested in broadening their wine knowledge, it is a clever idea. Vinebox claims they have patented bottling techniques, which is important as adding air will oxidize the wines. Since we haven’t sampled the wines, we’re unable to comment on their quality but the company does claim their integrity will be maintained for three years, which is a good thing.
Hey, if it increases the knowledge and enjoyment of wine, we’re all in favorwww.getvinebox.com. Besides, getting packages is fun!
