April 12, 2016 – Beer was invented by the early Egyptians, or so we’ve been told. Excavations on the banks of the Nile reveal at least 3,400 years ago they were drinking beer and burying jugs of brew in the tombs of the dead to help their journey to the Afterlife. The dating of the finds from the tombs was made by a Swedish team from the University of Lund. So far about 40 tombs have been uncovered.
The annual Nile flood has damaged the burial sites but there is evidence that they were once lavishly decorated and were tombs for important people.
