April 29, 2016 – Gn Chan, a bartender from New York City took home the trophy as his cocktail “Venceremos” was declared the Bacardi 2016 Legacy cocktail.
We joined 150 other invited guests and international press at the elegant Bentley Reserve in San Francisco where the grand finals were held. Eight finalists chosen from a short list of 36 talented bartenders from around the world prepared their cocktails for the judges. Each contestant had to make a presentation about their own background and the genesis of the drink recipe they had created. For many, English was not their first language. They were expected to describe the ingredients as they mixed the drink and there was a time limit of just 10 minutes.
The judges awarded points based on the contestant’s presentation, ease of drink production, its taste and aroma, the name, and the final presentation of the cocktail which covered such things a choice of glassware and garnish. They were an amazingly impressive and entertaining group.
