GRIPPING FAILURE OF GLOVE LAW IN CALIFORNIA

Back in January we wrote about the new “glove law” imposed on restaurants and bars in California. We pointed out numerous reasons why the law was costly and unworkable. http://www.wineandspirits.com/california-bartenders-must-wear-gloves/. Well, guess what? The author of the law, Assemblyman Richard Pan, D- Sacramento is proposing an emergency measure to restore the status quo prior to January 2014. We know politicians pass bills without reading them and they don’t think them through either.
The “glove law” created an uproar in the restaurant and bar business when it went into effect. Many states have “no bare hands” contact laws but it hasn’t reduced the incidence of food borne illnesses. Some research indicates that gloves might actually increase contamination. As we said before, we’re all in favor of strict hygiene controls around food and drink but let’s be smart about it.
