It is certainly the season for tips on drinking! For those on a diet or simply calorie conscious, NYC dietician and best-selling author, Tanya Zuckerbrot, offers five common sense suggestions:
- Lighten your usual drink – use club soda as a mixer with spirits.
- Wine diluted with club soda, called a spritzer, is only 50 calories.
- Avoid calorie-loaded mixed drinks such as a margarita which can add up to 450 – 600 calories
- Sip wine and spirits. They’re about 90 calories per drink each.
- If you plan to have more than one drink, alternate with water or seltzer. For one drink, she suggests sipping a martini, which is about 160 calories for a 2.5 ounce drink.
