The parade of flavored vodkas has been joined by an outlaw – well, not exactly an outlaw but an outcast at least. International Spirits has created the first ever tobacco-flavored vodka, imported from the Netherlands. Being controversial is the cheeky hallmark of their brand Ivanab*tch, which includes other vodkas, gin and brandy.
We have yet to taste it but we’re told the flavor of the Traditional Tobacco is “smoky vanilla blended with sweet caramel.” There is also a Menthol version, which hints of mint. “Tobacco” is a descriptor often used to characterize wine and fragrances. The flavorings are described as “all natural” and since the vodka does not contain nicotine, it will not lead to some weird tobacco addiction. But it is guaranteed to start a conversation!
Will it appeal to ex-smokers or those trying to give it up? How about the avowed enemies of all things cigarette? We don’t know the answers but we anticipate it is no better or worse than strawberries-and-whipped-cream-flavored vodka, which sounds geared to the kiddy set. It all comes down to marketing and the happily demented folk at Ivanab*tch (check their web site!) are one step ahead of the competition.
Product is being rolled out across the country this fall. Both flavors are reasonably priced at $14.99 per 750 ml. bottle.
