The point system used in wine reviews is a mixed blessing. Awarded by the wine critic, it can make or break a wine, especially if the reviewer had credibility. But here’s one that’s guaranteed to make the folks at David Fulton Winery & Vineyards blush with pride and joy. Their 2010 Old Vine Petite Sirah has just been rated 95 and “extraordinary” by the reviewers at the respected International Wine Review www.i-WineReview.com blog.
Petite Sirah, not to be confused with Syrah (or Shiraz in Australia) is an intensely dark wine with layers of flavor. It is often blended with other reds to give them body and color. At the David Fulton Winery, the oldest continuing family owned and operated vineyard in St. Helena, California, they make Petite Sirah from dry farmed old vines in very small quantities. The 2010 vintage is less than 300 cases so Petite Sirah fans, better get on their web site quick if you want your bottle!www.davidfultonwinery.com
