A Conundrum For James Bond?

James Bond’s famous “shaken not stirred” martini was introduced in Ian Fleming’s 1953 novel, “Casino Royale”. It was three parts Gordon’s gin to one part vodka. Will future Bonds have to switch to straight vodka?
The British magazine The Spirits Business reports that a fungus may destroy the native juniper bushes in England and Scotland. Juniper berries are one of the botanicals used to make gin.
Growth of juniper bushes has been declining for years but if the fungus spreads, it could wipe out what is left within 50 years. Most gin producers in the UK already source their juniper from Europe and there is concern that the blight could spread to those sources.
