Black Stallion Winery was the very appropriate venue for a simultaneous wine tasting in Napa and Shanghai to celebrate the Year of the Horse. The tasting arranged by the California Wine Institute is the fourth such “virtual” tasting. In the Napa Valley it was 7:00 p.m. In Shanghai it was 11:00 a.m. Both groups tasted the same wines and the participants in Shanghai were able to comment and ask questions about the grapes and winemaking techniques of four winemakers included in the tasting group in Napa.
China is the fourth largest export market for California wines. Wine Institute has been arranging annual trade missions to China since 2000 and for the past three years, has had a full time marketing agency located in country.
