Hummus Craft Beer. Seriously.

October 8, 2015 – Srigim Brewery in Israel is brewing beer using chickpeas, dates and buckwheat, reports The Daily Meal.  The unfiltered, unpasteurized, gluten-free beer was very popular at the recent Jerusalem Beer Fest.

The local craft beer movement is new to Israel, getting its start less than 20 years ago.  The Srigim Brewery makes about a dozen beers, in European and American styles.  That’s because the co-owner Ofer Ronen says he developed his love for beer working in Europe and Northern California.  He chose an appropriate venue for his microbrewery where archeologists found jars for beer dating back 3,000 years.

Bryan Meadan, Ronen’s partner, started making his chickpea beer at home.  When the recipe was perfected, he began selling it to beer devotees in Jerusalem where it has become very popular he said.  What does it taste like?  We’ve no idea!  We searched for reviews but found zero, zip, zilch but we’re betting it doesn’t taste like a bowl of hummus.
