February 17, 2016 – Only one bottle ever existed of Gilbey’s 1947 Orange Gin and for £1,000 you can taste it.  That equates to approximately $1,430, plus airfare unless you are already in the UK, and for that you get 25 ml or less than one ounce.
February 17, 2016 – Only one bottle ever existed of Gilbey’s 1947 Orange Gin and for £1,000 you can taste it.  That equates to approximately $1,430, plus airfare unless you are already in the UK, and for that you get 25 ml or less than one ounce.
The gin belongs to Kevin Berkins, owner of the Fence Gate pub in Burnley, Lancashire. Mr. Berkins is something of a gin collector with 850 gins showcased behind the bar. In 2015 when his collection amounted to only 623 gins he was recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records for having the world’s largest gin collection.
Mr. Berkins justifies the fee because as he told The Lancashire Telegraph, “It’s one-off bottle and cost a lot of money to buy”. We figure at .8 of an ounce he could make about £30,000 if he sells it all. However, since he is such a gin aficionado, he will surely want to reserve a few shots for himself.
The huge gin collection includes bottles from all around the world including the U.S. and flavors range from coriander to Christmas pudding.
