Extreme Fun With Scotch Whisky About to Hit the USA

February 16, 2018 – Sounds like a contradiction but it all starts this weekend in Arizona.  The Blended Scotch Whisky with the amusing name of Monkey Shoulder and its cement-truck-sized cocktail shaker will cruise into Phoenix for Arizona’s Cocktail Week on February 18.  The Monkey Mixer is a 2,400-gallon mobile cocktail shaker that will be touring food and spirits festivals, and other fun events, across the country.

Some genius came up with the cheeky idea of creating a GIANT cocktail shaker that revolves just like its antecedent in the construction industry, with the potential to serve 51,200 six-ounce pours.  We’ll never look at cement trucks the same way again.  We cracked up when we saw the following video – click the link to download the file:  Monkey Mixer

No, it won’t slosh its way across the country filled to the brim but it will be parked, mostly in parking lots attached to festival events, and will be staffed by a team of cocktail “experts” led by Monkey Shoulder’s US Ambassador, Seb Derbomez (he’s in the video) and Brand Associate, Tobias Schopf .  Samples will be complimentary to registered guests of events where The Monkey Mixer participates.

The cocktail that will be served is mischievously named “The Mixed Up Monkey” and it will definitely be mixed in the rotating drum and dispensed via a chute. Delicious, refreshing and balanced, the cocktail recipe contains:

  • 1 ½ parts Monkey Shoulder
  • ¾ part mint simple syrup
  • ½ part fresh lemon juice
  • 3 parts soda
  • Fresh mint sprig garnish

The campaign’s strategy is to change the perception of Scotch Whisky and encourage people to play with their whisky, experiment and have fun. “Many consider whisky sacred and precious. Many take their cocktails very seriously. We respect that, but believe people should play with their whisky, and enjoy the experience,” shared Seb Derbomez, US Monkey Shoulder Ambassador. “Monkey Shoulder is an award-winning whisky that is made for mixing, and we are dedicated to sharing the joy and wonder of what a whisky cocktail experience can be with people across the country. The Monkey Mixer is a great vehicle to share this message in a big and unmistakable way.”

Monkey Shoulder has received numerous accolades including designation as Drinks International’s Top Trending Scotch Whisky Brand of 2017, its fourth consecutive win in the category, and receiving the World Spirits Competition 2016 Double Gold honor. It is made of 100 percent malt whisky from Speyside, Scotland and crafted in small batches to achieve a smoother, richer taste.  Aging exclusively in first-fill Bourbon barrels assures exceptional smoothness.

Some fun facts about The Monkey Mixer, which was made in the USA by the way:

  • The capacity for the “Mixer” is the equivalent of 123,000 bottles of Monkey Shoulder
  • The Mixer is over 27 feet long, 13 feet tall and 8 feet wide
  • The mixer is powered by a 5000 watt Cummins Onan diesel commercial generator
  • The sound system packs over 2000 watts of power and includes:
  • 2 x 500 watt JL audio amplifiers
  • 1 x 1000 watt JL audio amplifier
  • 4 x 7.77” JL audio midrange speakers
  • 2 x 13” JL audio subwoofers
  • 1 x 18” Dayton audio subwoofer

The itinerary for other cities on the tour is still under wraps but details will be released over the coming weeks and we promise to keep you updated.  We’re hoping there’s a stop near us!  You just may spot The Monkey Mixer on the highway this summer.  Move over Idaho Potato Truck.  The Monkey Mixer is coming and it’s way more fun.
