California Wines Haul Home Awards from Decanter World Wine Awards 2022

June 13, 2022 — Wines from the USA fared very well at the 2022 Decanter World Wine Awards held recently in London with an impressive total of 314 medals, including 1 Best in Show, 4 Platinum and 9 Gold. California was the big winner for the USA taking all the Gold, Platinum and Best in Show. Winner of the uber prestigious Best in Show prize was Clos du Val, Hirondelle Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, Stags Leap District, California 2019.

Famed Napa Valley reds in particular saw success with all four Platinum medals awarded to wines from Rutherford, Los Carneros and Oak Knoll District AVAs.
California’s cool-climate regions also triumphed with Gold medals awarded to Edna Valley and Santa Maria Valley Pinot Noirs and Russian River Valley and Petaluma Gap Chardonnays. Nine Gold medals were awarded in total, including Amador County’s first-ever Gold for Ana Diogo-Draper, Touriga Nacional 2020 and a Value Gold up to £14.99 ($US18.80) for Chronic Cellars, Sir Real Cabernet Sauvignon 2020 from Paso Robles.
A further 97 Silver medals were awarded with Oregon and Washington State making the list, as well as Missouri for Stony Hill Winery’s 2019 Norton – the official grape variety of the state.
