The Kraken Gold Spiced Rum Released Nationally

March 8, 2023 — Spiced rum is a hot category and the latest entry comes from The Kraken.  Capitalizing on their popular Black Spiced Rum launched in 2010, The Kraken Gold Spiced Rum is set to take the cocktail world by storm.  And that’s appropriate since the Kraken is a mythical sea monster that emerges from its lair in the black depths of the ocean to terrify sailors, according to Norwegian legend.  The only thing the Kraken is reputed to like more than darkness is gold, no doubt collected from the shipwrecks it caused, and his lair is full of it.  Like many legends, the giant squid-like creature took on epic size and destructive abilities in the retelling over the centuries.  However, it hasn’t been seen for quite a long time, several centuries in fact.

Fortunately, the namesake delicious rums are seen and enjoyed more widely than ever.  Whether sipping on the rocks or as the base for an exotic cocktail, spiced rum evokes sun, sand and ocean breezes and right about now, we could all use some of that. (See sweepstakes information below)  The Kraken Gold Spiced Rum comes from the Dominican Republic.  Molasses based, it is smooth and rich with a finish of toasted oak and vanilla from aging in wooden casks for two years, which also gives it the golden or amber color. The aroma is described as caramel, oak and banana bread.
