Whiskey-Scented After-Shave Makes a Splash

September 10, 2015 – Maine’s Portland General Store knows how to cash in on a craze.  Not to be left out of the surging popularity of whiskey, this manufacturer of grooming products for men has introduced a line of after-shave and shaving soaps that combine strange things from the sea with exotic oils and juices from the land, all infused with a whiskey scent.  Interestingly, there’s not a drop of alcohol.
Sea kelp extract, blue-green algae, organic aloe vera juice, tea tree essential oil and black willow bark contribute to a refreshing and nourishing after-shave splash guaranteed to make the wearer feel like “a yachtsman relaxing below deck at the end of a long day on the wild ocean”.  Whiskey in hand, of course.  The whiskey scent is from a 1920s recipe and boasts notes of wood, amber and spice.  Hmmm.  The 1920s were Prohibition years.  Could they possibly have been having a nip of “after-shave” to get the day going?
The after-shave comes in a 120 ml amber glass bottle with a flow-limiter cap and costs $18.00.  And for the man who really espouses tradition, they offer whiskey scented shaving soap, or a shaving puck, whatever that is (soap wrapped in brown paper?)  Both priced at $18.00 each.  Just remember, you’ll be struggling with Christmas gift lists before you know it so bookmark this one.
