MillerCoors Sued for Misrepresentation of Blue Moon Beer

May 5, 2015 – Here we go again.  MillerCoors, maker of Blue Moon beer, is being sued by Evan Parent, a beer fancier from California.  What is with our fellow Californians that impels them to file lawsuits claiming damages when they purchase products they feel don’t fit their perception of “craft”?  Doesn’t everyone know that Blue Moon is made by MillerCoors?

According to Business Insider, Mr. Parent’s class action suit claims he was tricked because Blue Moon has a premium price tag and is placed near or among other craft beers, presumably the real stuff.  Their web site doesn’t mention MillerCoors and uses phrases like “artfully crafted”.

Blue Moon doesn’t fit the requirements of the Brewer’s Association which limits production to less than six million barrels, must be independently owned and not a part of a larger brewery, and should use traditional or innovative ingredients.

This case follows the suits instigated in California against Tito’s vodka, Marker’s Mark bourbon and Kirin beer to name just the recent ones we’ve covered.  In the case of Kirin beer, the suit is about it being made in the U.S .by Anheuser-Busch, not Japan.  Of course the lawyers are going after deep pockets and apparently there are plaintiffs out there who don’t mind looking either slightly foolish as uninformed chumps or money grubbers at best.

Robert Lehrman of Lehrman Beverage Law commenting on MillerCoors ownership of Blue Moon, “”But it’s no secret here. Anyone who cares knew a long time ago. It is preposterous that the plaintiff is a craft beer aficionado and didn’t know.”

Amen.
