Do Real Men Drink Pink?

In Europe they sure do and have for generations. In the US, well it is evolving.

Rosé is more than just a pretty face. It is the perfect summer wine. If it is really hot, red wine is problematic but a chilled rosé is the perfect partner for many of the foods we enjoy off the grill, or as wine columnist Dan Berger puts it, patio-type foods. Unfortunately, many wine drinkers still think of rosé as cheap and sweet, but happily its reputation has improved in recent years. Winemakers are producing quality wines, and the formation of rosé fan clubs and extra marketing efforts by wineries have contributed, too.

Dan’s column in the Napa Valley Register of June 14 has an excellent rundown of the grapes usually selected to make rosé wines And since there are so many styles of rosé, from sweet to dry, it is a wine category worth exploring.
