Major Lazer Stars Talk to Renowned New York Bartenders

May 13, 2016 – After the Bacardi Legacy Global Cocktail Competition featuring 36 bartenders from around the world was over, Bacardi hosted their third “Fuel the Hustle” roundtable discussion, which brings together movers and shakers in music and art to discuss what fuels their hustle in their respective industries and what it took to get to where they are today.
We’re delighted to share video of a discussion between DJs Walshy Fire and Jillionaire of Major Lazer with Ivy Mix, a judge at the 2016 Global Competition and fellow New York bartender extraordinaire, Steve Schneider.
While bartending and DJing might seem different to most people, the panel discussed the similarities and how each is its own performance art, in essence a conversation between the person behind the bar or DJ decks and their customer.
As part of the celebration, Ivy Mix and Steve Schneider created custom cocktails for Walshy Fire and Jillionaire inspired by their tastes. Steve Schneider and Walshy Fire mixed up the “Signal Fire” made with honey syrup, pineapple juice, lime juice, pink peppercorn, chili extract, and BACARDÍ Superior, while Ivy Mix created the “Jillionaire Remix” with muddled mint, pineapple juice, lime juice, BACARDÍ Gran Reserva Ocho Años, Angostura bitters, and garnished with mint and pineapple leaves.
KEY SOUNDBITES:
- Jillionaire discusses how owning a bar is similar to DJing
- Ivy Mix explains what barriers she’s overcome to win “Bartender of the Year”
- Jillionaire shares some of the craziest song requests he gets
- Steve Schneider states what your music taste and cocktail taste reveal about you
- Walshy Fire discusses how communication is the key to being a great DJ – and how DJing for a crowd of 100 is different than a crowd of 100,000
