One Million Trees Promised by Rum Distillery

April 23, 2021 — On Earth Day I was reminded of the numerous stories we’ve posted about distilleries, wineries and breweries, large and small, taking steps to improve our planet. One such company is Flor de Caña, a premium rum producer in Nicaragua, the world’s first spirit to be Carbon Neutral and Fair Trade certified.
Since 2005, Flor de Caña has planted nearly 750,000 trees through their own reforestation program. Now in partnership with One Tree Planted, an environmental charity, they have pledged to plant more than one million trees globally by 2025.

The campaign called “Together for a Greener Future”, will include a series of initiatives with retailers, bars, restaurants and on social media (#TogetherForAGreenerFuture) to engage eco-conscious consumers and raise awareness on the importance of reforestation.
Furthermore, individuals will be able to support reforestation efforts by donating through the One Tree Planted platform, which guarantees that one tree will be planted for every dollar received. In turn, Flor de Caña will match all individual donations received during the campaign, doubling the impact. One Tree Planted is a non-profit charity with a focus on global reforestation. They work with trusted partners to get trees in the ground and restore forests after fires and floods, create jobs, build communities, and protect habitat for biodiversity.
Flor de Caña is an ultra-premium, full-bodied rum from a 5th generation family estate in Nicaragua. The International Wine and Spirits Competition in London named it the Best Rum Producer of the Year in 2017. Founded in 1890, the estate lies at the foot of San Cristóbal volcano, the tallest and most active volcano in Nicaragua. The rum is distilled with 100% renewable energy and naturally aged without sugar or artificial ingredients. The brand was honored with the prestigious “Sustainability Award” during the 2020 Green Awards for its leadership in sustainable practices.
