Captain Morgan Jack-O’Blast a Must Have for Fall

Let’s start with the eye-catching packaging. The familiar Cannon Blast bottle returns wrapped in bright orange, ribbed like a pumpkin with a gray-green neck and cap. Illuminate it with a black light and it looks like a carved pumpkin. Too bad we don’t have a black light around here but we’ll take their word for it. With or without a black light, it is a striking package that is a handsome addition to any bar, kitchen counter or even a dining room table as a centerpiece. It’s fun.

As to what’s inside the bottle, if you like pumpkin spice you’ll love this. On the nose we got a lovely whiff of all the delicious pumpkin spices that make fall so special, plus a bit of a smoky, almost tobacco scent. We tried it straight and it is sweet but not cloying which was a pleasant surprise. Besides the carefully balanced spices, there’s a hint of cola flavor, which took us a while to identify. There’s not a lot of rum flavor except the heat with the first sip but this isn’t meant to be just rum. This is Limited Edition Pumpkin Spiced Rum.

We tried it with ice but preferred it straight and while it will be popular with the shot-drinking brigade, we found it very sip-able. Besides being a great cocktail ingredient, we can see it being used to flavor whipped cream – the kind you actually beat yourself, not out of a can – and drizzled over plain cake, ice cream and most definitely in coffee.
